When we started in 2007 there wasn't much of an active modern car culture in Houston. We are proud have activated a community of Modern Mopar owners and watch the owners support it with their participation. Owners became members and members became friends. We accomplished all this with a no-dues, no sponsors, no ads operation model.
In the last 5-7 years there's been a decline in the overall car culture both here and across the country. The rise of "takeover" culture effected our ability to host large free gatherings. I'm reminded of March 2018 when we lost our Target Central meetup spot due to "takeover" activity. The "3rd Friday" central event had been the staple of our club for many years and when we lost our ability to gather we noticed the camaraderie and connections that made the club what it decline.
We have a renewed focus to build small core group of owners that are interested in the best parts about being in a "car club", the relationships and knowledge sharing.
So, how do we plan to do this?
Establish a core group with a limited number of seats and create smaller events focused on a well-rounded variety of gatherings, such as car-related activities, food events, social gatherings, community outreach, and "other" hobby-based events.
I know what you are asking, what about SCLX 1.0? No need to worry, it will remain and we will continue to feature a calendar of featured and hosted events.
The core group will have its own exclusive hosted events on a smaller and manageable scale. Imagine 1.0 as a floodlight and 2.0 as a spotlight. We're excited for the core group's passion to impact and elevate the involvement of the 1.0 community.
Is this invitation-only core group a fit for you? Are you a fit for it?
Thank you reading and for being part of the SCLX enthusiast community! Reach out with any questions.
